Samuel was born in 1878.

There are conflicting sources for Samuel's birth month. The The 1900 Census lists his birth month as June. The year is difficult to read, but several other sources put his birth year as 1873. His FamilySearch profile has his date of birth listed as 14 August 1873, but this information is unsourced.
