DNA

  • Paternal relationship is confirmed by a Family Tree DNA Family Finder test match between Ken McEvoy and his third couson, I. Balch, the son of James Randolph Balch. Their most-recent common ancestors are Henry Nisbitt Ebenezer McEvoy and Naomi Greaves, g-g-grandparents of Ken McEvoy and g-grandparents of James Randolph Balch, the father if I. Balch. Predicted relationship (between KM and IB) from FTDNA: 2nd Cousin - 4th Cousin, based on sharing 56 cM (including a 24.64 cM segment on chromosome 10).
  • Paternal relationship is confirmed by a Family Tree DNA Family Finder test match between Ken McEvoy and his third cousin 'ACM', the son of Erica Mary Margaret Holmden. Their most-recent common ancestors are William Holmden and Susan Reed Isbell, 2nd great grandparents of Ken McEvoy and 'ACM'. Predicted relationship from FTDNA: 3-5 cousins, based on sharing 59 cM across 13 segments.
  • Paternal relationship is confirmed by an autosomal Family Tree DNA test match between Ken McEvoy and Judith Steffler, his 3rd cousin . Their most-recent common ancestors are William Holmden and Susan Isbell, the great great grandparents of both Ken McEvoy and Judith Steffler. Predicted relationship from Family Tree DNA: 4, based on sharing 12 cM across 1 segments.
  • Maternal relationship is confirmed by a match on GEDMatch between second cousins Tom McCann (23andMe test) and Ken McEvoy (FamilyTreeDNA test). Their most-recent common ancestors are William Henry Knowlton and Rose Anne Amelia Carkeek, g-grandparents of Tom McCann and Ken McEvoy. Predicted relationship from GEDMatch: 2.7, based on sharing the following segments:
    • Chromosome 2; 13.9 cM, 13.1 cM, and 40.3 cM;
    • Chromosome 5; 35.4 cM;
    • Chromosome 6; 34.2 cM;
    • Chromosome 7; 10.0 cM;
    • Chromosome 10; 33.7 cM;
    • Chromosome 12; 26.1 cM;
    • Chromosome 15; 15.0 cM;
    • Chromosome 17; 18.6 cM, 16.3 cM, and 27.9 cM;
    • Chromosome 21; 19.7 cM.
  • Maternal relationship is supported by a GEDmatch test match between Gary Ludwig GEDmatch A636223 and his fifth cousin Ken McEvoy GEDmatch T112498. Their most-recent common ancestors are their 4G-grandparents Stephen Carkeek and Frances Bevan. Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 4.3, based on sharing 36.6 cM across 2 segments. Triangulation is needed for confirmation.
  • As a result of a FamilyTreeDNA match between Ralph Glenn McAvoy's son 'GRM' and Ken McEvoy showing a predicted relationship of 6th cousins based on 67 markers, and 9 of 630 differences on the Big-Y test, it is likely that John McEvoy (b. 1752) (Ken McEvoy's gggg-grandfather), and John McAvoy (b. 1755), ('GRM's ggggg-grandfather), are closely related. If a genealogical relationship can be found, this would confirm the paternal relationships in both lines.

Steven,

Thanks for your note. I'm not a member of a specific team (that I'm aware of). I tend to plug away at my own family (which is primarily British), as well as working on some Cornish profiles whether they're family or not, because the names are unusual, and do appear in my family (e.g. Treloar, Carkeek, Tonkin, etc.).

Cheers, Ken

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the information and for working on your family and Cornsih profiles. All this helps our project and is appreciated.

(You have at some stage in the past opted to join our Cornwall team. I'll leave you in there; this seems be the place where you are most active.)

With best wishes Steve

Hi Ken,

I wrote to you recently as part of the England Project's six-monthly check-in with our project members. I haven't heard back from you. I hope you are well.

If you could please drop me a quick note to confirm whether you are still interested in the project and wish to remain an active member, that would be very helpful.

If we do not hear from you within the next 2 weeks, we will assume you are no longer active in the England Project and remove you from our list of project members. You would be most welcome to re-apply to join the project at a later time by signing-up on the project’s G2G welcome post.

Many thanks!

Maddy,

Apologies for not having replied sooner. I am interested in the England project ... most of my ancestors are English. I haven't actually participated in any of the activities of the project (other than the Orphan Trail), but I do continue to work away at English ancestors, and trying to get unconnected fold connected. Cheers, Ken

Hi Ken,

It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

  • If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
  • Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
  • Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Jen Hutton, on behalf of the Ireland Project

Molly, I was looking at my own profile today, and saw your message ... my apologies if I didn't respond at the time (and my apologies if this is a second response ... I'm old enough to get confused).

If you're connected to the Treloar family, I would love to explore the connection. Could you tell me about a Treloar ancestor that you have (whether or not they have a Wikitree profile)? ... Cheers, Ken

Hi Ken! If you are interested in WikiTree Apps, you might want to join the Google Group -- there has been some discussion about Python this past week. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/wikitreeapps
posted by Jamie Nelson
Jamie, thanks for your suggestion. I actually joined the Google group a few days ago. My problem is that although I was a programmer all my working career, primarily in C++ but also Python for modelling and calculations, everything that I did was on local machines; I'm not at all familiar with remote calls or working on servers located somewhere else. So I have a few questions:

1) Is it possible to run a Python app locally that accesses the Wikitree database (as opposed to running an app on a remote server)? 2) Is there documentation for the absolute beginner? 3) Is there a sample program that I could copy that would demonstrate how to do something simple, which I could then gradually expand to do what I'm interested in doing? Thanks, Ken

Nic,

I haven't been particularly active in the project itself, but I do continue to work away at my English ancestors, as well as any individuals - related or not - with the surnames McEVOY, CARKEEK or TRELOAR.

Hi Ken,

The United Kingdom Project has not been active since 2018 and we are now completely closing it down. We are removing all UK project badges. If you still have an interest in the UK and have not already joined another project, then you will need to join the England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales Project by answering one or more of their G2G posts. If your interest is in the British Isles and British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories, then please contact me directly.

Hi Ken,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Amy, Joan & Lizzie.

Hi Ken,

Your England Leaders are completing the six monthly check in with all team members. Thank you for all your work on English Profiles and in particular your work on Cornwall Team.

These are unprecedented and difficult times, and we understand as Project Leaders that your situation may have changed somewhat in the last few months. What we are all able to/ wish to contribute on Wikitree has changed. Please let me know if you are happy with your current role and team choice, or if you wish to do something additional or different. Thank you again on behalf of all the Project Leaders for everything you do.

Lizzie

Lizzie,

Although I don't think I've done anything formal with the England project (Cornwall Team), but I have created a fair number of profiles for the Treloar family, with which I share a connection and a strong interest. ... Also the Carkeek family, although they're harder to pin down. I will certainly continue working away on these two Cornish families.

Hi Ken,

The England Project Leaders check-in with the members every six months to see how people are getting on. How are you doing? I notice you have yet to choose which team you’d like to be on. Are you having difficulty deciding and can I help you with that? One requirement for membership in the project is that you contribute to a team at least once every six months.

Please respond to me via e-mail.

Many thanks,

Susie, England Project Leader :-)

Ken,

Sterling work Ken and much appreciated by a newcomer like me. I am wondering if you have any information on Treloars who may have traversed a now near non-existent town of Forney, Idaho where my paternal grandmother Gladys Adele Treloar was born September 1, 1901. I understand they later lived in Boise, Idaho where my grandmother grew up as a teenager. Pardon my lack of adherence to protocol if this is not an appropriate place to raise this question.

Thank you again.

The Ireland Project (previously the Irish Roots Project) has now changed its structure into Teams. We require everyone with the Ireland Badge to be a member of at least one Team or Sub-Team and our google group. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Ireland for details. The Teams are :-

1. Categories Team
2. Counties Team
3. Managed Profiles Team
4. Membership Team
5. Profile Improvement Team
6. Topics Team
7. Diaspora

? Can you let me know which team(s) you’d like to join.

Many thanks,

Hi Ken,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi Ken

Thank you so much for responding to our check-in. We are delighted that you wish to continue contributing to the Canada project. Below is a quick checklist for active members. The project leaders would like you to make sure you have done the following:

1) Checked the Project Page for ways to contribute

2) Added CANADA to the tags you follow.

3) PM the project leaders with your email address to be added to the Google Group

4) Bookmarked the Activity Feed to monitor the project watchlist

Thank you

Hi Ken

Just checking in to see if you are ok :)

It has been 3 weeks since I posted a message on your profile and I have not had any feedback from you.

If I don't hear from you by the weekend, I will presume you no longer wish to be involved in the England Project.

I will then go ahead and remove you from the project and remove the badge.

Hope to hear from you soon :)

Thanks,
