Percy Stanislaus McDonnell was born in 1860 in Kensington, London, England. He was the son of Morgan Augustin McDonnell and Frances Maria Bonham.

Percy Stanislaus McDonnell married Grace Margaret McDonald in 1891.[1] They had 2 sons.

He passed away in 1896 in South Brisbane, Australia.[2]

From the The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954) of Friday 25 September 1896 we see multiple Death Notices below:

McDONNELL.—September 24, at his residence, Merivale-street, South Brisbane, Percy S. M'Donnell, second son of the late Hon. M. A. M'Donnell, of Victoria, in his 36th year.
McDONNELL.—September 24, 1896, at his residence, Eudoia Villa, Merivale-street, South Brisbane, Queens-land, Percy Stanislaus, youngest son of the late Hon. J. S. M'Donnell, ex-Attorney-General, Victoria, aged 36 years.

Percy McDonnell had been an Australian Test cricketer. He was captain of the Australian Test team in 6 matches.[3] He made his Test debut against England at The Oval in London from September 06 - 08, 1880. While he played his last also against England at Manchester from August 30 - 31, 1888.[4]

From his Biography in the Australian Dictionary of Biography: [5]

McDonnell toured England in 1880, 1882, 1884 and as captain in 1888. With 418 runs at 23.22 he was second to W. L. Murdoch in 1880 and again in 1884, with 1225 runs at 23.25. He headed the batting in 1888 with 1393 runs at 22.83. In nineteen Tests against England he scored 958 runs at 29, with three centuries and a highest score of 147. One of his best innings was against the north of England in 1888 when, on a sticky wicket, he scored 82 in 55 minutes in a partnership of 86 with A. Bannerman. In 1884 against England at Adelaide he scored 124 and 83, his batting described 'as unsurpassed for finish, power and complete command over the best of English bowling'. In all his first-class cricket he scored 6460 runs at an average of 23 and is reckoned one of the great Australian batsmen.

Percy McDonnell is buried at the Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane, Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia. [6]
