Private Seneca McCracken served with Maryland Militia during the American Revolution.

Seneca McCracken is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A075827.

William, son of William McCrackin and Sarah Osman was born about 1757 and died about 8 Sep 1829 at Woodford County, KY, when his will was proved. He is buried at McCracken Family Graveyard, Forks of Elkhorn, Franklin, KY (his F.A.G. Memorial states he was b. Hunterdon Co., NJ).

He married first Margaret Williams about 1777. Based on the wording of his will, their probable children (surname McCRACKEN) were:

William (b. 15 Jan 1778; m. d/o John WILLIAMS)
Sarah (b. c1780; m. Richard Doniphan SHIPP)
Elizabeth 'Betsey' (m. John HAMILTON)

After the death of Margaret, he married second Rebecca Reynolds (1764-1816) on 3 May 1785 at Berkeley, VA. William's will made bequests to the following children (surname McCRACKEN):[1]

Mary (m. — STEWART)
Margaret (m. — SCOTT)

His will, dated 2 Aug 1828 at Franklin County, KY, and proved Sep 1829, mentioned William McCrackin (previously given 100 acres), his daughter Sarah Ship (previously given 100 acres), daughter Betsey Hamilton (previously given 100 acres), son Otho McCrackin, Ovid McCrackin (prob. brother) Rachel McCrackin, son Osborn McCrackin, daughter Mary Stewart (to have 100 acres), daughter Margaret Scott (to have 100 acres), and his sister Cups. Executors were John Hamilton, Richard Ship, and Otho McCrackin.[2]

  • The 1810 census of Franklin, Franklin County, KY, listed Senica McCracken with 2 males 16-25, 1 male 45+ (himself), 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-15, 2 females 16-25, and 1 female 45+ (wife).[3]
  • The 1820 census of Lawrenceburg, Franklin County, KY, listed Seneca McCrackin with 1 male 16-25, 1 male 45+ (himself), and 2 females 16-25.[4]
