When John H. McCauley was twenty-one years old, he appeared on the 1900 United States Census in the household of his father, William L. McCauley (whose surname is misspelled McCanley in the FamilySearch.org index.) According to this record he was born in Nov 1878 in Texas. Other members of the household were his mother, Georgia Ann McCauley, his brother, William O. McCauley, and his cousin, Ella McCauley. They were living in Brandon Village, Hill County, Texas. John H. McCauley was working as a farm laborer. [5]
John Henry McCauley was first married to Kate Rebecka Henry on 26 Aug 1903 in Hill County, Texas.[6][7] They were the parents of at least three children. The birth of son Thomas Lafayette McCauley was recorded in 1906 in Hill County, Texas.[8]Daughter Alta Lois McCauley's birth was recorded in the Hill County, Texas birth records in 1908.[9]
1910 United States Census, Waco, McLennan County, Texas: When the 1910 United States Census was taken, John H. McCauley was recorded as thirty-one years old. He, his wife, Katie R. McCauley, and their three children, Jerome B. McCauley, Thomas L., McCauley, and Alta, Louise McCauley, were living in Waco, McLennan County, Texas. John H. McCauley's occupation was recorded as Minister of the Gospel.[10]

Katie Henry McCauley died 19 March 1917 of emphysema in Dallas, Texas at the Baptist Sanitarium.[11]
John Henry McCauley's second wife was Gamma Sally Weaver to whom he was married on 30 March 1918 in Haskell County, Texas.[1][12] He and Gamma were the parents of at least three children.
When John H. McCauley completed his World War I Draft Registration card, he was living in Munday, Knox County, Texas and working as minister of the Baptist Church there. He named Gamma McCauley, his wife, as his nearest relative. His physical description was medium height and build, gray-black hair, and gray eyes.[13]
1920 United States Census, Slaton, Lubbock County, Texas: John McCauley was enumerated as head of household on the 1920 United States Census. He was forty-one years old and married to Gamma McCauley. Children in the household were, John B. McCauley, Fayett McCauley, and Lois A. McCauley (all three children by John McCauley's first wife.) They were living in Slaton, Lubbock County, Texas where John McCauley was working as a clergyman for a church.[14]

John McCauley, age fifty, was enumerated as head of household on the 1930 United States Census. Other members of his household were his children, Maypearl McCauley and Ira Val McCauley, and his mother-in-law, Bell Weaver. They were living in Coalgate, Coal County, Oklahoma. John McCauley occupation was recorded as Baptist clergyman.[15]
Three of his children, Mae P. McCauley, Ira V. McCauley, and Gamma S. McCauley, were enumerated in his household on the 1940 United States Census, as was his wife Gamma McCauley. They were living in Denton County, Texas. According to this record, John H. McCauley was sixty-one years old and working as a life insurance agent while his wife Gamma worked as a dry goods saleslady in a department store.[16]
When he completed his World War II Draft Registration card, John Henry McCauley was living in Denton, Denton County, Texas. He named his wife, Mrs. Gamma McCauley, as the person who would always know his address.[17]
John Henry McCauley passed away on 09 August 1944 in Denton, Denton County, Texas. It was recorded on his death certificate that he was a Baptist Minister. He was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton, Denton County, Texas.[3][18]
According to his obituary, "Rev. McCauley, after, attending Baylor University from 1907 through 1911 became a missionary in Hill County, and in 1914 became pastor at Godley. Following that he held pastorates at Thalia, Weinart, Munday, Slayton, and was a missionary in Floyd, Wheeler and Collingsworth Counties before going to Oklahoma Where he was a missionary and pastor before coming here [Denton, Texas] 10 years ago." His obituary stated that he was survived by his wife, Gamma Weaver McCauley, and six children, "...Col. Jerome Brooks McCauley, Waynesburg, Mo.; Thomas L. McCauley, Prague, Ok.; Mrs. Alta Lois Hargrove, Goose Creek; Mrs. May Pearl Cleveland, Miss Gamma Sue McCauley and Ira Val McCauley, all of Denton..." Also named as a survivor was his brother, Will O. McCauley of Fort Worth, Texas.[1]
