Biography

Bernard was born in 1841. He was the son of Thomas Maupin and Susan Ogg Gibson.

The 1850 Census[1] shows him at age 8 in the home of his parents in Albemarle County, Virginia.

The 1860 Census[2] shows him at age 19 in the home of his parents in Fredericksville Parish, Albemarle County, Virginia.

He married his first cousin once removed Susan Ann D. Maupin (1848-1911) on 3 Nov 1866 in Albemarle County, Virginia.[3] Their children:

  2. Mittie Frances Maupin (1869–1944)
  3. Maupin (1873–Deceased)[5]
  4. Maupin (1875–1875)[6]

The 1870 Census[9] shows him at age 28 with his wife and one daughter in Fredericksville Parish, Albemarle County, Virginia.

The 1880 Census[10] shows him at age 39 with his wife and one daughter in Whitehall, Albemarle County, Virginia.

The 1900 Census[11] shows him at age 60 with his wife and one daughter in White Hall District (Free Union & Blackswells Precincts), Albemarle County, Virginia.

The 1910 Census[12] shows him at age 69 with his wife in White Hall, Albemarle County, Virginia.

He passed away in 1918. [13]

His obituary cites his Civil War service:

– Bernard P. Maupin, aged seventy seven, farmer and Confederate veteran, died last night at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Henry Carter, near Free Union. He served in Sturdivant's Battery throughout the war, and was at his post of duty at the surrender at Appomattox.[14]
