– Bernard P. Maupin, aged seventy seven, farmer and Confederate veteran, died last night at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Henry Carter, near Free Union. He served in Sturdivant's Battery throughout the war, and was at his post of duty at the surrender at Appomattox.[14]
