Biography

Nicholas was born about 1821 in Saint Peter Port, Guernsey. He was probably the son of Guillaume Mauger and Elizabeth Warren. ^[1]

Research Notes

• Nicholas is not certainly the child of William Mauger and Elizabeth Warren, but the reasons for including him in this family are explained here:

In the 1851 Channel Islands Census, there is a Samuel Mauger, printer's apprentice, identified as the nephew of Nicholas, living in his household. ^[1]

This Samuel is probably the son of William Mauger, tailor, who emigrated to New York in 1853, and Samuel is not listed in the household of William in 1851. ^[2]

His age corresponds to that of William's son Samuel in the 1841 Channel Islands Census. ^[3];

The Samuel Mauger (1838-1872) who is listed in the 1860 US Census in the household of William Mauger was identified as a printer. ^[4]
