Major Robert John Maude was born 4 Jan 1853 an baptised 14 Jan 1843 according to his Military Enlistment Records.

In the 1871 census Robert (age 18) was the pupil of Henry B Moberly in St Michael, Hampshire, England at Boarding School with many other students.^[1]
