Biography

Eleanor was born about 1897. She is the daughter of Thomas Maude and Georgina Day.^[1]

Eleanor gained New Zealand Nursing Registration in November 1923 in Christchurch, New Zealand. after training at St Thomas's Hospital London for three years to December 1921^[2]

Her marriage to George Cummings was mentioned in the Evening Post on 12 September 1927 in Wellington, New Zealand. An interesting and pretty wedding ceremony took place at the English Presbyterian Mission, Muar (Malay Peninsula), on 8th August, when Mr. George Elder Cumming, manager of Craigielea. Estate, Maur, eldest son of the Bey. J. B. Cumming and Mrs. Cumming, the Manse, Diifftown, was married to Eleanor Egerton Maude, younger daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. Maude, Christchurch, New Zealand. The Rev. W. Murray, M.A., officiated, and the bride was attended by Mrs. Cecil P. Smith, Malacca, as matron of honour, as well as two small attendants. These were Miss Betty Wallace and Master John Falconer. The best man was Dr. T. F. Sheehan, Muar, and the bride was given away by Mr. H. A. Peters, Port Dickson. The bride was in a charming dress of white Paris crepe trimmed with a wide silk fringe. Her veil was of Honiton lace, lent for the occasion by Mrs. C. J. Sloman. The only jewellery worn was a very old gold brooch with an exquisite floral spray in pearls; Her bouquet was composed of Vanda Joaquin orchids and asparagus - fern. ^[3]

In the 1939 register Eleanor (age 42), Unpaid Domestic Duties, was recorded as married in Corfe Hills, Wimborne and Cranborne, Dorset, England.

Eleanor died on 28 July 1951 in Dorset, England and her estate passed probate on 10 October 1951 in London, England. ^[5]
