Giuseppe "Joe the Boss" Masseria was one of the leading mafia bosses in New York City during Prohibition. From 1922 to 1931 he leaded the criminal organisation nowadays called the Genovese crime family, one of the New York Mafia's Five Families. He was murdered in 1931 as one of the high profile victims of the Castellammarese mafia war.
