Biography

John Alfred Dezso Marten was born on 13 December 1882 in Budapest, Hungary. He was the son of Simon Marten and Estelle (or Ethel) Lachs. He stated in his 1901 US passport application that his father had lived in the US from 1870 to 1876 and was a naturalized US citizen.^[1] John himself arrived in the US in 1897, having resided there for 4 years uninterruptedly when he requested a passport in 1901.

He married Estelle Weil on 20 December 1903 in Manhattan, New York.^[2] Their daughter Virginia was born in 1905 but they separated soon afterwards.

John A D Marten doed on 10 March 1914 in El Paso, Texas.^[3] He was buried at Temple Mount Sinai Cemetery in El Paso.^[4]
