Christianus Bernardus Marten was born on or a few days before 22 November 1750 in Halberbenhof Marten, Haste, Osnabrück, Heiliges Römisches Reich, son of Georg Rudolph (Dieckman) Marten (~1704 - 1776) and Anna Elisabeth (Mönckedieck) Marten ( - 1762).[1] He was baptised in the cathedral of Osnabrück, Dom St. Petrus on 22 November 1750.[1] His godparents were Franciscus Hermannus Kornhage and a Catharina (whose last name is difficult to decipher; needs reading aid); his baptismal witnesses were Christian Fegebode and the Lutheran Joannes Henricus Meyer.[1] It needs to be noted that none of his godparents or witnesses were called Bernardus, as it was custom at the time and for the family for children to get some part of their name from their godparents.

During his childhood, Christian lived on the Halberbe Marten farm operated by his parents. Since he was not a child from the father's earliest marriage, he was not entitled to become the heir of the farm. This privilege was for his elder sister Catharina Margaretha Marten (~1737 - 1787) who married Lechtingen's Joannes Everardus Werries (abt.1748-1804) in 1769. Christian was only 19 years old at the time, and became the witness in the marriage ceremony on behalf of his sister.[2] It should be noted that the name "Bernardus" was not mentioned in the church book.
Six years later, Christian stood witness in marriage again when he was 25 years old. But this time his name was given slightly differently, as Joan Christian Marten. He became a witness to the marriage of Ferdinand Dieckman (~32) and Maria Elisabeth Goldkamp (~20) on 7 July 1776 in the cathedral St. Petrus Osnabrück.[3]
Johan Christian Marten (~44) married Catharina Margaretha Remme (~ 23) (born in Hollage, Wallenhorst on 14 July 1771; died in Hollage on 22 June 1848), daughter of Joan Hinrich Boberg and Anna Maria Wulfetange, on 17 February 1795 in St. Alexander, Wallenhorst.[4] Their witnesses were Gerd Henrich Bergman and Catharina Maria Wulfetange.[4]
Upon marriage, Christian Marten took the last name Remme of his wife and her farm, which they continued to operate.

Christianus Remme died on 28 January 1815 in Hollage aged ~64.[5] He was buried on the catholic church cemetery of St. Alexander in Wallenhorst on 30 January 1815.
