Biography

Ann Marshall was born at Shotts in Lanarkshire, and baptised on the 6th of April 1834, the daughter of Thomas Marshall and Agnes Robison/Robertson.[1]

In 1841, Ann was living in Gorbals, Lanarkshire with her family.[2]

At the time of the 1851 census, Ann was working as a House Servant in the faming household of William Jack and his family at Lochhill in Shotts.[3][4]

In 1851, Ann's family were living at Salsburgh in Shotts, Lanarkshire with two boarders, Francis Hall and James McLeay.[5][6]

Ann Marshall married James Maclay on the 24th of August 1851 at Shotts, in Lanarkshire, Scotland [7]

Ann died Mar 17 1915 in New Haven, Connecticut. She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut. [25]

Research Notes

There are six Ann Marshall's born in Lanarkshire between 1825 and 1835, and several with the name Anne, but only three registered in Shotts. By following the Scots Naming Pattern, there is only one which fits...Ann born 1834 to Thomas Marshall and Agnes Robison/Robertson.
Thomas Marshall is quite likely to be, this Thomas born at Shotts during the correct time period..1806/7 (aged 44 in 1851)[26] possibly Thomas Marshall (1804-)
Thomas Marshall married Agnes Robertson at Shotts, Lanarkshire on the 21st of May 1826.[27]
