Samuel Marken was born 15 April 1775 in Maryland, the son of _____ Marken and Catherine Marken, who was born in 1739 and died in 1823. Catherine Marken is buried in the Wolfsville Lutheran Cemetery. Samuel Marken’s first wife was Elizabeth Hammer, who was born 29 August 1781. Samuel and Elizabeth Marken had four children, John, Jacob, Samuel Jr., and Catherine. Elizabeth Hammer Marken died on 28 November 1821 at the age of 40 years, and is buried in the Wolfsville Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In 1822 Samuel Marken married Margaret Rebecca Brunner. She was born 1 June 1800, being the same age as Samuel Marken’s oldest son, John Marken, age 22 years. At the time of his second marriage, Sam Marken was 47 years of age. Samuel and Margaret Marken were the parents of five children, Mahala, Henry, Julia, Wesley, and Elias.

Samuel Marken’s tract of land was called “Good Luck”. The Sam Marken family members were farmers and carpenters. His farm was located near Wolfsville in Frederick County, Maryland. The Marken little log cottage stood over a spring in the meadow south of the Lutheran Church.

The Marken family were Lutherans. The Wolfsville Lutheran Church was built on land donated by Samuel Marken. The Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church Cemetery are located on the original farm of the Samuel Marken family.
