Giuseppe is born to unknown parents in September 1849 and left at the foundling wheel. He is taken in by the wet nurse, his maternal aunt, Vincenza Marino, the wife of Michele di Miceli. In October 1856, he is formally recognized as the legitimate son of Stefano Frisella and Mattea Marino, who married in 1850.[1]
Giuseppe is known as Paolo Frisella, according to the record of his marriage. He marries Maria Rosa di Simone, daughter of Vincenzo di Simone and Maria Feudi, on 4 March 1878 in Corleone. His mother has died by this time.[2]
Giuseppe/Paolo and Maria Rosa have at least four children: Stefano/Steve (1879), Mattea/Maria (1881), Vincenzo (1883), and Charles (c. 1897).
Stefano is born 21 January 1879 in Corleone and baptized the next day. His godparents are Antonino Mancuso Marcello and Giovanna Timpa, a married couple.[3]
Matthea is born and baptized 10 April 1881 in Corleone. Her godparents are Salvatore di Simone and Pietra la Sala, a married couple.[4]
Vincenzo is born 11 February 1883 and baptized the next day in Corleone. His godfather is Leonardo Provenzano.[5]
Bill Feather tells us that Paolo Frisella emigrated in 1883 and settled on E. 106th St.[6] A matching primary source has not yet been found.

286. Francesco Maria Frisella Vella, 36 (b. 1857), male, merchant, from Corleone, is going to New York. There are no other passengers from Corleone on this page of the manifest.[7]
Charles is born in New York City on 4 November 1897, according to his draft registration. The record of his death gives his date of birth as 1 November 1899.
Mattea marries as "Maria". She is 19 (b. 1882) when she marries Federico La Torre. She was born in Corleone, Italy and Federico, the son of Paolo La Torre and Giovanna Cascio, is 29 (b. 1872), born in Valle Lucania, Italy. Maria and Federico marry on 1 January 1901 in Manhattan.[8][9]
Paolo is one of several signatories to a 1906 letter quoted in Flynn’s Barrel Mystery. The letter was discovered, hidden in the diaper of Giuseppe Morello’s child, by Mrs. Morello. The letter is addressed to Rosario Dispenza of Chicago and regards the membership in the Mafia of Calogero Constantino, at that time being held in “Bacaluse, Louisiana.” (Most likely Bogalusa, in Washington Parish. pp. 207-211. The signatories are Paolo Frisella, Gaetano Lomonte, Stefano Lasala, Fortunato Lomonte, Antonio Rizzo, Michaele Coniglio, Angelo Valenti, and Francesco Moscato.[10]
In the 1910 federal census of Manhattan, “Carl Frisalor,” 57 (b. 1853), heads a household on E. 101st St. He has been married for 30 (m. 1880) years to Rosie, 52 (b. 1858). At home are their sons Steve, 30 (b. 1880), Joe, 16 (b. 1894), and Charles, 13 (b. 1897). Rosie has had five children, four living. Carl, Rosie, and Steve were born in Italy and Joe and Charles in New York. According to this census, Carl and Rosie immigrated in “1989” and Steve in “1988.” Carl is a laborer at odd jobs. Steve is a barber in a store. Joe is an office boy.[11]
Stefano dies on 13 March 1916 in Manhattan. He is 37 (b. 1879), single a barber, born in Italy. He is buried on 15 March 1916 in St. Raymond Cemetery.[12]
Charles, age 21, of 203 E. 102nd St., NYC, registers for the draft for WWI on 5 June 1918. His employer is Vincent di Simon at 2371 2nd Av., NYC. His nearest relative is Mrs. Verro at the same home address. Charles is short and slender with blue eyes and brown hair.[13]
Open issue: Although his 1918 draft card names a Mrs. Verro as Charles' nearest relative, in 1920 he is single and lives with his parents.
In the 1920 federal census of Manhattan, taken 12 January, “Paul Frizzela” (Paolo Frisella) heads a household at 210 E 102nd St. He is 65 (b. 1854), married. Paul and his wife, Rose, 60 (b. 1859), both born in Italy, immigrated in 1890. Their son, Charles, 21 (b. 1898), born in NY, lives with them. Paul works in a candy factory and his son is a barber in a store.[14]
Charles dies at age 82 in September 1981. He last resided in Broome, NY 13901.[15]
