Biography

Maria Maddalena was born in 1825 to Pietro Marino and Anna Viola ^[1]. Maddalena married Vito Calandra in 1845 ^[2]. She was widowed in late 1847 or 1848 while pregnant with son Vito Calandra. Then in 1850 at age 25, she married 27-year-old Vito Montalbano ^[3]. She and this second Vito had multiple children. Widowed, she married again at age 37 in 1862 to Melchiore Catalano ^[4]-- his first marriage. It is not yet known if she and Melchiore had children.

Research Notes

Maddalena's 1850 marriage record overstates her age by 2 years. It is likely that she brought to the the town clerk the birth record for her younger sister Maddalena who died. Her age as recorded in that marriage record, 27, would correspond to the birth record for the deceased Maddalena.
