Matthew was born in 1848. [1] He was the son of John Manuell and Maria Manuell.

On 30 March 1851 John Manuell (28) Miner, wife Mariah Manuell (25) with children Matthew Henry Manuell (2) and Meriah Jane Manuell (7 Mo) lived in Kenwyn, Cornwall, England. [2]

He was Baptised on 26 April 1854 at Chacewater, Cornwall, England. John (Miner) and Maria were from Roseveth, Kenwyn. [3]

On 7 April 1861 Maria Manuell (35) Tin Miner's wife (Husband Abroad) with children Matthew H Manuell (12), Maria J Manuell (10), John Manuell (8) and Elisha Manuell (5) lived in Green Bottom, Kenwyn, Cornwall, England. [4]

Matthew emigrated from England and settled in California, USA about 1869.

On 30 July 1870 Mathew Manuel lived in Township 7, Placer, California, USA. [5]

He was killed in a mine accident in 1873 [6] and was buried at the Old Iowa Hill Cemetery. [7]

A news story in the Placer Weekly Argus (April 5, 1873) reported the accident that took the life of young Mathew Manuel who had emigrated from Cornwall, England. There was a cave in at the South Point mine that covered him in 10 feet of dirt. The mine had been the location of several such accidents in previous months and years. Just prior to his passing, young Mathew had received a letter from his mother in Cornwall, entreating him to give up mining and return to his homeland.

Probate granted on 30 September 1873 to Maria Manuell, widow mother and only next of kin. [8]
