  • He m. Baptist Ch., Halifax, Nova Scotia, 25 May 1882 Mary Le Mesurier (b. there 12 Mar 1859 and d. The Mount 10 [bur. 13] Sept 1951), yr dau. of Henry Nicholas PAINT, MP in Dominion Parliament 1882–87, by his wife Christi[a]na St Clair McVEAN; and he d. the Mount 8 Apr 1929 and was accorded a civic funeral (bur family vault, St Peter’s Wolverhampton, 11 Apr).

Legacy

A storied south porch by Messrs Pachieri and Hack was erected in his memory in St Peter's, Wolverhampton, and dedicated in 1932.

His will was proved London 9 July 1929 by his widow and 2 sons leaving £258,160 16s. 6d.

Portrait likenesses by Hon. John Collier at Owlpen Manor and Wightwick Manor (National Trust Collection) (ex Town Hall), and by George Phoenix in Philip Mander estate.

His trustees donated a small estate including the Guild House and cottages in Aston Cantlow to the village.

Charles Tertius Mander left 2 sons and 1 dau.

Arms

Arms: Gules, on a pile invected erminois, three annulets interlaced, two and one of the field.

Crest: On a wreath of the colours, a demi-lion couped ermine holding in the paws two annulets interlaced fessewise gules, between two buffalo horns of the last.

Mantling: Gules and or.

Motto: Vive Bene.

Livery: Blue, yellow facings, brass buttons.

Grant 72/174 to Charles Tertius Mander confirmed by Sir Arthur William Woods, Garter, and George Edward Cockayne, Clarenceux, Heraldic Coll. 30 May 1901, with extended limitation to descendants of Charles Benjamin Mander and Samuel Small Mander.

Ermine three Annulets interlaced gules occurs as arms for Mandere in Smith’s Ordinary (1599); the shield was confirmed by Edward Bysshe, Garter, to Thomas Maundy [als Maunder, of Cornelly, Cornwall] in 1657, together with the grant of a crest. These were confirmed with differences by Walker, 1660.

Pedigree

The Mander Pedigree with proofs of original genealogical evidence from Robert of Lapworth b. 1681 was registered by Charles Tertius Mander at the College of Arms (Norfolk 22/120) for 6 Apr 1904, and later updated.
