Hy is op 20 Julie 1783 gedoop in die NG Kerk van Drakenstein.[1] Op 18 Junie 1804 koop hy die plaas Goede Verwagting in die Wagenmakersvallei vanaf Johann Conrad Froneman en verkoop dit op 21 Desember 1810 aan Susanna Gertruide Naude.[2]

Biography

Jacobus Francois was born on 15 June 1783 in the Wagenmakersvallei to Jacobus Johannes Malan and Anna Aletta Retief.[1]

He was baptised on 20 Jul 1783 in the Dutch Reformed Church Drakenstein.[1]

On 31 October 1802 he married Maria Susanna Rossouw in the Dutch Reformed Church of Cape Town in Cape Town.[3]

On 28 Jun 1804 he bought the farm Goede Verwagting, Wagenmakersvalley from Johann Conrad Froneman and sold it on 21 Dec 1810 to Susanna Gertruida Naude.[2]

On 21 Dec 1810 he bought the farm De Groene Fonteijn, Wagenmakersvalley from Johannes Minnaar.

On 9 Des 1839 he gave 17 morgen of the De Groene Fonteijn to his son, Jacobus Johannes, which was named Leliefontein. On the same day he gave 6 morgen of the farm to his son David Johannes. The remaining 6 morgen he kept for himself. [4]

On 6 October 1840 his first wife, Maria Susanna Rossouw, died.

On 23 March 1841 he married Elizabeth Johanna Louw in the Dutch Reformed Church of Wellington in Wellington.[5]

On 28 May 1846 he and his wife, Elizabeth, had a daughter which was still born.

He died on 17 Jul 1783 in the town of Wellington.[6]
