Biography

Jan Jacobus was born on 1 June 1907^[1] at Anniesrust in the Heilbron district in the Oranje Unie.^[2] He was the son of Marthinus Lourens Malan and Cecilia Gerbrechta Malan.^[1]

He was baptised on 25 August 1907 in the Dutch Reformed Church of Heilbron in Heilbron.^[1]

He farmed at Anniesrust in the Heilbron district.^[2]

On 11 Dec 1934 he married Susanna Magdalena Claassen in the Dutch Reformed Church of Vereeniging in Vereeniging.^[3]

He died on 31 October 1948 in the Vereeniging Hospital in Vereeniging at the age of 41.^[2] Eight days prior he had an accident where a hammer amputated his right index finger. The stump was amputated but he developed tetanus which caused his death.^[4] He was buried at Anniesrust.^[5]
