Biography

Alexander Mair (1757-1836) was the son of Son of Rev John Mair, Minister of Rayne, Aberdeenshire & his wife Elizabeth née Forbes.
He married Frances Helena Baronneau daughter of Gideon Baronneau & his wife Ann née Deacon.
He was the Deputy Governor of Fort George, Inverness, Scotland.
He died aged 79 on the 18th Jan., 1836 in 29 Abercomby Place, Edinburgh, Midlothian , Scotland.
He was buried in Saint Cuthbert's Churchyard, Edinburgh, , Scotland.

N.B. Their is a discrepancy between the date of death & his age on his memorial stone (1st Jan 1835 aged 78) and various press reports stating that he died on the 18th of Jan 1836. I have used the date used in the press reports as the most likely to be correct.
