Biography

John 's Profile is a BRICK WALL Help is Needed.

John was born about 1775, assumptions almost likely in Kerry, Ireland but it's not certain. He is presumably a grandson or son of James Mahony and Catherine Conway of Cloghane, according to Irish pedigrees. [1]

John Mahony is usually listed as an "Esquire" which could mean he was a lawyer of some sorts or just a gentleman. The baptismal records of his children states that after marriage, he lived at Churchtown House, near Tralee. His daughter, Sarah Mahony, married Arthur Blennerhassett and lived at Blennerville which is not far from Churchtown House.

So far, the main sources that points towards John Mahony's existence are the Catholic baptismal records of his children that are registered in Tralee; a death record of one son who died in the United States and some obituaries of his three known children; and the marriage record of his daughter, Sarah Mahony, to Arthur Blennerhassett. There are the mentions of his relationship as a father to Sarah Mahony in the Blennerhassett pedigrees published by Burke as well as Samuel Trant McCarthy's references in his publications about the Mahonys of Kerry.

His wife, listed on the baptismal records of his children, is Maria Delahunty. No marriage record has been located for them or searched thoroughly for them elsewhere. No marriage announcement in Casey's Index. Very few Delahunty families are in Kerry in this time frame but her son's American death record says she was born in France, which is actually a common place to live for military Irish of a certain rank. She may have been born abroad to a military father.

It is not known if John and Maria Delahunty Mahony owned or leased in Kerry or if they moved to England or elsewhere. Maria Delahunty could have also died after bearing three children in Tralee, Kerry.
