Started Family History Research in 2008 and spent intensive 18 months building Ancestry.com tree and collecting as much information as I could, till I began hitting walls and felt that I could not really get any further at that time. Also there were other areas in my life that needed attention. So the family history had just been idling till I took my DNA test in August 2017.
As a result of my name now being in the system, a distant cousin contacted me and told me about GEDMatch, so it became my mission to do the same, explaining to as many of my new found cousins how they could make more out of there results by using a combined resource.
I did stumble across wiki tree in Oct 2017 but was preoccupied with trying to figure out how to use DNAGedcom and Genome Mate Pro, so I could progress my new chromosome mapping and research opportunities. The major block I ran into here was because I am a Mac user and most of these programs are designed for Windows. Having just bought a new MacBook Air I have been biding my time until I can justify buying a second laptop, to resume these avenues.
In the mean time I have been looking elsewhere. I started Using DNAPainter which discovered through a great face book group called 'Genetic Genealogy Tips & Techniques' then I found one called 'Scottish DNA' where by uploading your DNA data, you are provided with list of you Scottish matches - which is what brought me back to my Rosemarkie roots. You then display your list and tag your matches so you can make contact. I posted a question asking if anyone could tell me where Ethy was as it was mentioned on my Great great grandfather, Andrew McLennan's baptism record. Someone provided an old map with correct spelling of Ethie, I googled it some more and somehow found my way back to Wikitree.
Up until yesterday all I knew about Andrew's pre Australian history, was the name of his mother and father - Catherine Mustard and John McLennan (Maclennan), that he was illegitimate and that according to his marriage certificate he came from Rosemarkie. Now thanks to WikiTree and Lisa Henderson, I know so much more!

I am hoping we are from the same Mahony group - still working on it. Let's stay in touch. I have a couple more question regarding who you match in the one-to-many tool at GedMatch.
Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz.
Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. Please ensure location data matches date of profile and avoid abbreviations. Citations & links for sources enable verification of data. From wiki ID go to Research to find sources
Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.
Add the project tag to your Following list to keep up to date on any activity
