John was born about 1640. He passed away about 1719.
John McQueen, b. ca 1640?, d. p 1719 in co. Inverness, Scotland, married. ca 1665? to Anne Mackintosh. John was of Pollochaig, co. Inverness, and was referred to as such in the Valuation Roll of 1691[1][2] He was apparently also called "John Macqueen of Pollocheck" in a record that may date to 1685. A legend recorded in 1820 stated: "John Dhu Macqueen of Pollochaig, generally called Iain Dhu vic Coul (son of Dougal) ["Dhu" meaning "the Black"].
" John Dhu Macqueen of Pollochaig, generally called Iain Dhu vic Coul (son of Dougal) was a famous sportsman and excellent marksman. It is said that he was upon a friendly footing with all the witches, fairies, and warlocks of his day, but more especially those in his neighbourhood. He lived in the beginning of the 18th century, and had married Anne, sister of Laird Lachlan Mackintosh."[3]
