Robert was born in 1760 to George McAdie and Margaret Cottar.
He is assumed to have died between 1809 and 1841.
His surname appears in records variously as: MacAdie, McKady, McAdie, MacKady, MacAdy.
Baptized
12 Apr 1760
Watten, Caithness, Scotland
entry reads: George McAdie in ?Scarmclet? had a son procreated betwixt him and Margaret Cottar his spouse, baptized called Robert before wit: William Calder Tails of Watten and Robert ?Harrch/Levach? in Scarmclet [1](this assumes identification of the correct Robert, but is highly likely from naming pattern of Robert and Mgt's children)
Did parents move to Wick or are the last 3 children another family? No marriage obvious on indices at New Register House 1770-1819, nor in Watten OPR (from ? to 1797)[4][5]
Are there earlier children yet to be found?
Many trees (Ancestry and MyHeritage at least) assign a son Joseph to Robert and Margaret.
Original information was that the informant for the death of daughter Margaret (married to William Rosie) was her brother Joseph. No sign of his existence other than this could be found in census or death or parish records. Mystery solved when a copy of the dth cert was checked, I (Lorna) read the informant as brother George, of Hillhead.
