Caution: The lineage of this Daniel Lunt was:
On page 267-8 (Appendix) of T. S. Lunt's widely disseminated family history of the "Lunt's in America" Daniel's lineage (Samuel, Samuel, Ensign Henry, Henry) is noted correctly. [1] On page 24 of his compilation T.S. Lunt errors by including Daniel Lunt (this profile) as a son of Samuel (Skipper, Ensign Henry, Henry). In other words there is a mixup as to which Samuel descends from and in doing so Daniel's grandfather, who was also a Samuel, is misidentified as being Skipper who was a cousin. On page 44 the error in this Wikitree's profile is reprinted. Additionally, For each of Daniel's 12 children their lineage also includes the same error: Skipper Lunt, a brother of their grandfather Samuel, is used in Samuel's place.
BIRTH
T. S. Lunt has Daniel Lunt born the 19th November 1749 which is repeated in Anderson's work "Maine Families in 1790". [2] He was the son of Samuel Lunt and wife Mary (Berry) Lunt and was probably born at Falmouth where his parents briefly resided before relocating to Star Island in the the Isle of Schoals just off the Kittery coast. [2]
MARRIAGES and CHILDREN
According to T.S. Lunt, Daniel married Molly "Starbuck" should read Starbird who died 25 Dec 1787.[3] [4] Her last name at birth (LNAB) is verified by a number of Cumberland County Deeds where husband Danial transacts with his father-in-law John Starbird and where Daniels children inherit some of their Starbird grandfather's land. "Molly Starbird was born on 11 Jun 1749 and died on 25 Dec 1787." [5] According to Anderson's "Maine Families in 1790" Father-in-law John Starbird sold Daniel property in Falmouth to Daniel Lunt and Shadrach Chapman jointly the latter also being a son-in-law of John's. [Anderson, p.300 quoting Cum. Co. deed 15:372] [2]
The children of Daniel and Molly (Starbird) Lunt were:
Molly (Starbird) Lunt may have died in childbirth or shortly there-after as Daniel married 2nd on the 7th January 1790 at Westbrook, Cumberland, Maine, Eunice Conant, daughter of Bartholomew and Hanna 'Anna' (Frink) Conant [Anderson, p.300 quoting Cum. County Marriage Records A:22.] [2] [4] Eunice was born in Westbrook which borders Falmouth. Their known children were [T.S. Lunt, p.44] from this 2nd marriage of Daniel's were:
OCCUPATION
Based upon a number of Cumberland County Deeds where Daniel was one of the participants in land transactions he is first styled as being a "blacksmith" and later when he is older he is styled as as being "Daniel Lunt, Esq." This latter occupation appearing after what must have been a successful period of business as a blacksmith because he appears to have evolved into a buyer and seller of Cumberland County land and included his immediate family and his siblings in some of his purchases.
RESIDENCY & REVOLUTIONARY WAR SERVICE
According to Conant, Daniel Lunt came to Falmouth about 1760 with his father Samuel who "settled at Duck Pond situated in Westbrook bordering Falmouth and Peru... and who owned a large amount of land on both sides of the Presumpscot river and at Blackstrap and Duck Pond" [Conant quoting from History of Westbrook] [4]
In a number of Cumberland County Deeds he is always styled as being "Daniel Lunt of Falmouth".
In 'The History of the Town of Peru" it's recorded that "Daniel Lunt of Falmouth conveying 4,880 acres in Township No. 1, Jan. 29, 1790; price paid, L738, equivalent to $3,690, (in 1912 $) , or a fraction over 75 cents per acre." Apparently Daniel may have been acting as an agent for Merrill Knight of Falmouth who shared in the purchase with Daniel because the latter was required to front money of his own in order to complete the sale. Hollis goes on to explain that Daniel Lunt and Merrill Knight shared equally, Knight receiving the north half. [5] The same source also states that "No one of the [original] grantees [Daniel Lunt and Merrill Knight] named in above sales became actual settlers in the township. [Hollis, p.5-6] [5]
Daniel turned his Peru land over to sons William, Daniel, Jr., and James Lunt, sons of his 1st wife Molly Starbird. [5]
Daniel's father Samuel also owned land in the future Peru and Daniel passed that along to sons George W. Lunt and Francis Lunt, sons by his 2nd wife Eunice Conant. [5] According to source Hollis "The first Lunt's came around 1800. Geo. W. [Daniel's son] was of age in March 1815."
Daniel was a member of Brackett's company of 'minute men' and a sergeant in the same company by 10 May 1775. In Skillen's company of Francis' regiment and commissioned 2nd lieut., 3 Feb 1777. He served as Captain in Col. Benjamin Tupper's regiment, 18 Mar 1780 and in Joseph Vose's Vose-229 1st MA regiment in 1783. [4]
Based upon a Cumberland County Deed dated the 13th July 1811 "Elizabeth Lunt, wife of William Lunt late of Falmouth, Cordwainer, sells her right of Dower and thirds in the estate of husband William Lunt for $127.99 to [her brother-in-law] Daniel Lunt of Falmouth, Esq." [6] William left his property to his wife Elizabeth, based upon the just mentioned deed, and also to his four surviving siblings, Mary Lunt, Sarah (Lunt) Merrill, Daniel Lunt, Sen. and John Lunt, Sen.

According to a petition for a Revolutionary War widow's petition filed in 1838 by Eunice Lunt, her husband Daniel Lunt died at Westbrook, Maine, on 29 Nov 1823. She stated that he was born in that part of Falmouth, Maine, which in 1823 was the town of Westbrook, and that he had resided at Westbrook "a great many years," The petition also includes details of Daniel's Revolutionary War service.[7] [2]
In the Estate of Daniel Lunt, late of Westbrook, Esq.: On the 1st June 1827 [8]
RESEARCH NOTES
Family history author Conant states that this Daniel Lunt, son of Samuel, was born in Kittery some 50 miles south along the Maine coast from Falmouth. This begs the question which source is the more correct given the absence of a Maine birth record. As Daniel's 2nd wife Eunice stated Daniel was born in Falmouth so that's the birth location used in this profile. Contant's compilation is a 'look-back' and more subject to error.
