BIRTH
Based on Epping, New Hampshire town records, both John Lunt, Sr. and Nehemiah Wheeler arrived at Epping in 1773. John Lunt Sr. is on record as stating he was from Newbury, Massachusetts by way of Portsmouth. John Lunt, Sr. married Sarah Hook of Epping. They had two small children the eldest being this WikiTree profile for John Lunt, Jr. who was born in October 1774, Epping, New Hampshire based upon the Rockingham Probate Court papers. His mother was not Sarah Weeks as claimed by T.S.Lunt. Sarah Weeks married a cousin of this profile (John Lunt, Sr. of Falmouth and Gray, Cumberland, Maine).

In 1778 at Epping his father, John Lunt, Sr., died unexpectedly which triggered a great deal of probate administrative papers including legal activity from the orphan court given the ages of John, Jr. and his baby sister Sarah. Those same papers provide the vital records support for this profile's birth and parentage and kin. Those papers also conveniently state that John Lunt, Sr.'s wife was Sarah Hook whose brother Ezekiel Hook was appointed estate Administrator. It is important to repeat that his mother was not Sarah Weeks as claimed by T.S.Lunt.

MARRIAGE and CHILDREN
John Lunt, Jr., who was born in October 1774, married Anna Wheeler, daughter of his father's friend Nehemiah Wheeler. [Rockinhgam VR's] John Lunt, Jr. and wife Anna Wheeler Lunt had three children:

1. John Lunt, 3rd, b. 1798, Epping ; m. Elizabeth Ann Smith, at Freemont, Rockingham, N.H. Their two known children did not live very long: Daughter Emeline died in childhood and son Charles Wesley Lunt d. age 32 yrs. ; his d. cert. says he was a shoe cobbler ; he d. age 64 yrs on 27th Feb 1864, at Ashland, Middlesex, Mass. although he was a long-time resident at Bedford, Middlesex, Mass. based upon the d. cert. He is called John Lunt, Jr. in that d. record although his grandfather John Lunt, Sr. d. in 1778 at Epping and he is technically the 3rd of that name. He is called John Lunt, 3rd here to acknowledge his short-lived grandfather and to help descendants locate the correct ancestor.
2. Sally Lunt, b. 1800, Epping ; she d. 13 Oct 1885, Epping ; she never married nor had children and was buried in the Epping Central Town Cemetery
3. Nehemiah Lunt, b. 1802, Epping ; he is believed to have m. Rachel Dean and they had two girls: Sarah Ann and Rachel Jane ; he d. 13 Mar 1869, Epping

DEATH
John Lunt, Jr. passed away on the 6th May 1851 at Epping where he had lived his entire life. His wife Anna (Wheeler) Lunt passed away in 1849.

CAUTION Family history author T.S. Lunt somewhat confuses the family information about this John Lunt of Epping, N.H., who married Anna Wheeler of Epping.

The work done herein is based upon primary sources and arduous reconciliations between the contemporary like-named John Lunt's in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire most of whom were cousins, and some of whom who were not but who where shown to have emigrated from England.
