Biography

Susan was born March 11, 1828 in Vermont.^[1][2][3] She married Freedom Green Lamb on 21 Sept. 1845 in Rochester, Vermont.^[4] In the 1850 Federal Census, they had a baby under a year old named Angeline M. Green.^[5] Tragically, Freedom died when he was 30 years of age.^[6] A little over a year later, she married William C. Chaffee.^[7] In 1880, they were living in Addison, Vermont. She and William had three children listed on the Census: Meriam Lowell (29), Willey (19), and Alney (13).^[1] By 1900, they were living in Nebraska. Their son William, his wife, and their daughter were there when the Census taker came by.^[2] By 1920, William had died. Susie was 91 years old and living with her son, Alney and his family in Washington, DC. Alney was the reading clerk for the House of Representatives.^[8][9] Susie died at the great age of 93 and is buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C.^[3][10]
