Biography

Reuben was born in 1827, the son of Reuben Lowell and Sarah Smith who had moved from Litchfield with their daughter Minerva to Calais, Maine. Sons Reuben B. and his brother George A. were born in Calais. Reuben was originally a Livery Stable Keeper but he was later a farmer and a civil inspector. He married Elizabeth Emerson and they had daughters Minerva and Mary Emerson Lowell. His wife passed away in 1883 and Reuben lived with his daughter Minerva who had married Howard A. Black. He was living with them in Manhattan according to the 1905 and 1910 census records. Reuben died in New York City but was buried in Calais, Maine. Find A Grave suggests his middle name was Braddock. It may be true but at the moment I have no records to support this claim.
