Seth Lore was born in Southold about 1710 to Richard and Hannah Lore. His brother is Hezekiah Lore.
In 1731, Richard Lore (father) who had recently moved to West Jersey conveyed all his land and goods in New York to his son Seth for £20. The transfer was recorded in New Jersey.[1]
Sometime between 1731 and 1736, Seth relocated to New Jersey with his father and brother.
Seth Lore married Phebe Fraser (Frazer, Frazier) about 1736 in Fairfield.
Their children
In 1751, Seth donated the lot on which the Dividing Creek Baptist Church was constructed. "A lot was donated by Seth Lore in 1751, and a small church erected. This church was duly constituted as a regular Baptist church, May 30, 1761.[2]
On 17 May 1758, he was granted 109 acres "By Dividing Creek" in Cumberland. OTHERS NAMED: Daniel Elmer (Deputy Surveyor); Edmond Iliffe (Owner of adjoining land); [Unrecorded] Lawrence (Owner of adjoining land); Hezekiah Lore (Owner of adjoining land); [Unrecorded] Reeves (Owner of adjoining land); [Unrecorded] Wass (Owner of adjoining land).[3]
Seth was named in multiple deeds in New Jersey as a neighbor.
"Seth Lore was chosen Surveyor of Highways at a meeting in Dividing Creek on March 9, 1773 for Downe Township, N.J. He was one of the first settlers in Dividing Creek, coming ashore where the bridge is now located. He cleared a large parcel of land called Seth Lore's Plantation [consisting] of 510 acres starting at the Dividing Creek Bridge and going up from Maple Creek to Mill Creek. Seth Lore located in this area between 1735 and 1740."[4]
In 1778, Seth married as his second wife Abigail Whitaker/Whittaker, one year before his death. Both were of Downs Township.
Seth Lore, Jr. died before March 5, 1771, leaving a widow Mary.[5] His daughters Sarah and Ruth became wards of their grandfather Seth Lore.[6]
"Seth Lore, of Downs Township, Cumberland Co." died intestate before 24 January 1780. The administrator of the estate was Nathaniel Lore, with fellowbondsman Gideon Heaton, both of Downs. Witness: Peter Ladow.
His tombstone is particularly lovely because he donated the land for the church and cemetery.[7]
Lore-190 is a probable descendant.
