Biography

Sarah Elizabeth Lightbourn was born 11 July 1850 in Nassau, Bahamas to Paul Samuel Lightbourn and Adeline Saunders Lightbourn.

She married the Reverend Elijah Henry Sumner, Wesleyan minister, about 1878 in Nassau, Bahamas. The couple had children, all of them born in the Bahama Islands: Henry, Roger, Mary Eulalie, and Florence Rivers Sumner.

Sometime in the late 1890s, the Sumners returned to England to reside. They appeared in the 1901 England Census as residents in Cornwall, and then they moved to Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire. In 1906, Sarah, Elijah, and their daughters returned to Nassau to live permanently. The family moved back to England in 1909 because of health issues, and there they remained until Elijah and Sarah Sumner passed away.

Sarah Eliza Lightbourn Sumner died 25 August 1917 at her home Hillsdale, Pilley, Cheltenham, England at 67 years of age.
