Biography

Rees ap Lewis ap John Gruffudd, Gent., was the son of Lewis ap John ap Gruffudd, Gent., of Dryffrydan, Merionethshire and Ellin ferch Hywel ap Gruffudd.[1] His date of birth is unknown and is estimated.

Rees ap Lewis married Catherine ferch Ellisa ap Dafydd, daughter of Elissa ap Dafydd ap Owen and Mary ferch Sion ap David.[1] The date and place of their marriage is unknown and is estimated. Rees and Catherine had four sons:

  • Lewis[1]
  • Ellis, Gent., of Bryn Mawr, second son, died before 1696, married Anne Humphrey in 1649[1]
  • Griffith[1]
  • Rowland[1]

In 1617, Rees built a stone house at Bryn Mawr, Dyffrydan township, Merionethshire. Rees ap Lewis was living in 1649.[1] His date and place of death are not known.

fyi - since he's father of "Ellis ap Rees", he did not pass a surname to his son & so his LNAB should be "ap Lewis" instead of just "Lewis".
