Montague was born about 1796 in London, Middlesex, England.
He married Eliza Moses in September 1815 at Great Synagogue, Dukes Place, {north of Aldgate) - Ashkenazic Synagogue, London, Middlesex, England.
He entered maker’s marks at Goldsmiths Hall in 1823 from 125 Pall Mall, in 1833 and 1834 from 5 New Broad Street, Bishopsgate, all as a goldworker.

Montague died at the age of 56 on June 1, 1850 at his home 18 Queens Square in Bloomsbury, Middlesex, England and was buried in Kingsbury Road Cemetery in Dalton, London, Middlesex, England.[2][3]
