Biography

Names are deliberately spelled here exactly as they are in the source documents:

Marie Janne Lemirre was born 19 October 1759 and was baptized the same day in St-Jean-Baptiste-de-Nicolet. Her parents were Pierre Lemirre and Marie Jeanne Pinard. Godparents were François Provençal seminarist (he was the only one able to sign) and Marie Anne Foucault "fille".[1][2]

On July 5th 1779, in St-Jean-Baptiste-de-Nicolet, Joseph Foucault son of Joseph Foucault and Magdelaine Loiseau married Marie Anne Lemirre daughter of Pierre Lemirre and deceased Marie Jeanne Pinard.[3]

2nd to 3rd degree of consanguinity noted, in fact they were double first cousins once removed, their common ancestors were:

  1. Jean François Lemire and his wife Françoise Foucault, they are first cousins once removed on that branch.
  2. Antoine Pinard and his wife Marie Jutras making them first cousins once removed on that branch as well.

Marie Anne Lemire, wife of Joseph Foucault died November 28th 1804, she was about 44 years old. She was buried the following day in St-Jean-Baptiste-de-Nicolet.[4]

Bonjour,

I cannot merge Marie-Anne-Jeanne Lemire's file in your file for the following reason. Your registration is numbered 1 (Lemirre-1) for one reason only, the name Lemire written with two Rs does not exist in Quebec. Best regards.

Cher Monsieur Boisvert,

It's common with earlier ancestors that the spelling of a name was not standardized.

Nevertheless, if there are any contemporary written documents, the spelling from those documents should be used. In particular, the spelling that appears in a birth record should be used for the Last Name at Birth unless there are other documents from at or near the time of birth that inform us about a more common or correct spelling.

The spelling used by descendants is not relevant unless there are no contemporary written documents.
