Biography

Joseph Delphis was born in Verner, Ontario on 28 Feb 1891 and baptized in 02 Mar, 1891 at Ste. Anne Parish in Sudbury, Ontario. His father is listed as Albert, but dates and mother correspond. His godparents were Delphis Legault and Marie Louise Miron. (Uncle and Aunt) ^[1] In 1901 Census, he was 10 years old. ^[2] In 1911 Census, he was twenty and still living at home. ^[3] He was a farmer, and carpenter in Verner. He married 7 Feb, 1916 in Verner.^[4]They had eight sons.^[5] He died in Sturgeon Falls,, at the Chateau Nursing Home where he was living at the time on 26 Jan 1965. He is buried at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. ^[6]

Family confusion

Delphis Joseph Elie Legault, the correct husband for Rose Alma was born 28 Feb 1891 with parents Norbert Legault and Delia Exilia Miron.^[7]

Delphis's great-grandfather Louis Legault was a settler in the community of Verner Ontario. There are many research papers written on this. The relationships are all the same.

Research Notes

Delphis's birth date differs from the bathismal record. He is listed as born the day he was baptized. It's hard to believe, because it's a long hour journey from his birth location to the church in this day and age. How long was it in the Winter of 1891? This birth date was given by his oldest son.

There is a discrepancy with date of marriage, Jan or Feb but chose the one from the local genealogical society; West Nipissing Genealogical Society. ^[8]

Name issue with spouse "Victoria" but see the explanation in Rose-Alma Roy profile.

Edgar (Hector) Alpha Legault child of was never mentioned by his family. He died at 2 years old. The death certificate seems correct.^[9]Upon further research, found the birth certificate and it confirms that it is their child. His eldest Lucien always said he had a twin brother die young. This is certainly the brother that he remembered (not a twin)..^[5]
