Margaret was born about 1640. She was the daughter of William Leeds and Jane Holliday. She passed away in 1714. She married Richard Haines in Aynhoe, Northamptonshire, England.
Richard and Margaret Haines became members of the Society of Friends sometime during the period 1672-1676. It seems likely that this religious association had some bearing on the decision of Richard Haines, and of John Borton, his fellow townsman, to emigrate from England to America, and undoubtedly it was a contributory factor in deciding where to settle in America.
Margaret Haines and her family arrived in Burlington, N. J., in the fall of 1682. There is no written record of the hardships encountered by this recently widowed woman with a large family in a strange country.
Richard Haines had not made the decision to leave England without making provision for a livelihood in America. West Jersey, through the influence of William Penn and others, was being settled largely by members of the Society of Friends. Richard Haines was a farmer, or "husbandman," and a man of some means, as he was able to purchase land before leaving for America. He purchased 100 acres of land from Edward Byllynge, recorded as follows: "1682 April 21. Deed. Edward Bylling, late of Westminster, gent: to Richard Haines of Anve of ye Hill, Co. of Oxon, husbandman, for 100 acres in West Jersey.[1][2]
Richard died on the ship "Amity", enroute to the Americas.
About two and one-half years later, on 3 mo. (May) 6, 1685, at Thomas Gardiner's house, Burlington, under the care of Burlington MM, N. J., she married Henry Burcham, of Neshamony, Bucks Co., Pa.

Unknown-369357 and Leeds-155 are not ready to be merged because: I have seen NO evidence of Margaret Leeds marriage to Richard Haines. Please postpone any merge until proof of the marriage is shown. Intensive search in England for my book 'WHO WAS RICHARD HAINES the Quaker emigrant who died at sea in 1682' found NO marriage for Richard. That means Margaret Leeds would not have married Burcham either.
There is no source for Margaret being a Leeds. Many people are taking it for fact that her last name is Leeds from this website. The children are not being linked to this profile due to this incorrect information it seems.
Richard Haines was NOT born in 1639 in Aynhoe, and he did NOT have a daughter, Margaret born 1678. I have seen no evidence concerning Margaret Leeds. Where and when was she born? Where is the marriage evidence?
Unknown-369357 and Leeds-155 are not ready to be merged because: Margaret S. Leeds is NOT Richard's wife. I searched all the parish records in England where Richard's wife, Margaret, may have been born and where they may have been married, but did not find her birth or their marriage anywhere. She was probably from Aynhoe, but the parish records where I found Richard's children are so faded and incomplete from about 1650 to the early1660's, that her true identity may never be found. She definitely was NOT Margaret S. Leeds. Donna Haines-2106
