Biography

The youngest child of George Lee and Mary Walsh, John was born in 1856 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.[1] He wasn't baptised until 31st January 1867, after his family had moved to London, when He and his older brothers Malcolm and Charles were baptised on the same day. The baptism register states John's full name as John Benjamin Stedham Lee, and his date of birth as 21st June 1859.[2]

1861 Census - Scholar, aged 3, born Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Address: Black Lion Lane, St Peter's Terrace, Hammersmith, Middlesex.[3]

Ben Lee immigrated to Adelaide, Australia before his mother Mary and his sister Evelyn. He fell ill in 1879 and died in 1880.[4] He was buried in the Walkerville Wesleyan Cemetery.[5]

Research Notes

Note: the John Lee who immigrated to South Australia on the Queen Bee in 1865 was a 21 year old miner from Cornwall.
