Born in Alexander, Victoria, Australia, Pattie Maie Leckie on 2 March 1899, she was the eldest daughter of John William Leckie and May Beatrice Johnston.[1]
She was known as Dame Pattie Menzies, not as Lady Menzies, even though her husband had been knighted in 1963.[2]
On 22 September, 1920 she married Robert Gordon 'Bob' Menzies in Kew, Victoria , Australia.[3]
Dame Pattie Maie Leckie Menzies was appointed Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in the 1954 New Year's Honours.[4]
The Citation read - "In recognition for her years of incessant and unselfish performance of public duty in hospital work, in visiting, addressing and encouraging many thousands of women in every State of Australia, including very remote areas and in the distinguished representation of Australia on a number of occasions overseas."
She died on the 30 August, 1995, aged 96 years, in Hughes, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia.[5]
