Biography

Mary Laws was born in North Carolina in 1818 and died in 1886. [1] She was living on her family farm in Wilkes, North Carolina in 1820. [2] and in 1830 her family also owned two female slaves. One who was younger than 9, and one between the ages of 24-35. [3]

December 18th 1835 she married Obediah Butler in Robeson, North Carolina. [4] They lived together on Obediahs farm in Robeson in 1840 where they started a large family. [5]

In Fork Mountain, Yancey, NC Mary’s father moved into the family farm. [6] The location of the farm was listed as Harrell, North Carolina in 1870. [7]

Obediah died in 1875. Elizabeth lived on a farm in Harrell, owned by the husband of Mary Polly Carver. Mary Carver was the daughter of Mary Butler. [8]
