Iris Lataille was born July 6, 1915 on Rhode Island, most likley at or near Burrillville as her parents had lived there for many years. She is the last child of 11 and the last daughter of eight for Napoleon Lataille and Celima Labossiere. Her birth record has not been found, but the 1935 Rhode Island state census gave exact birth dates. [See below 1935 Rhode Island state census]
In the U.S. 1920 census [1] Iris is found at home with her parents and nine siblings. Only her eldest brother, Herman, now about 26, is not with them. Her father is now working as a farm manager and, five older siblings that are at home, all work in the woolen mill. The family is now living in or near the village of Mapleville which is just south east of Burrillville. The woolen mill was most likely located in Burrillville within walking distance.
In May 1922, tragedy struck the family as Iris's oldest sister, Marie who was now married to Edmund St. Pierre, died of peritonitis. She was just 30 years old and left a little girl, only one month old. In the 1925 Rhode Island state census [2] the little niece, Margaret is recorded with the family, so is most likely living with them. Napoleon and seven siblings were also still at home living with their parents.

In 1930, Iris is now 15 years old and is still living at Mapleville, with her parents and is found in the U.S. 1930 census [4] She is one of seven single children still at home. Five older siblings, all work in the woolen mill, but her sister, Louise is a teacher at the catholic school, while Iris, the youngest, is not working. Her niece, Marguerite, now seven, still lives with them.
The 1935 Rhode Island state census used individual computer type punch cards for each person. [5] It appears that six of the children were still living at home, but as the address only gives the street and no house number, this is not certain. His parent's, Napoleon and Celima are listed as living on Main St. and six of their children are also listed at that address, including, Napoleon, Jr., so he is most likely with his parents. See each of the children's profiles for their records. This cenus confirms the birth date for Iris.
Iris's Lataille's father died in 1939 at Burrillville. She is next found in the U.S. 1940 census [6] She is still living at home, now with her widowed mother and five other siblings who are still single and her niece, Margaret, who is now 17. Iris is now a teacher like her older sister, Louise.
