In the 1860 Denmark Census, Jens was listed as one year old and living with his mother, Maren (28), his father Lars Kristoffersen (34), brother Rasmus (5), Jens (1) and grandmother Ane Kathrine (65). They still lived in Fanefjord, Mønbo, Præstø, Danmark.[2]
After his father's death in 1861, his mother married Peder Nielsen on April 16, 1862 in Vindebæk, Fanefjord, Præstø, Denmark.[3]
They also had two children who were stillborn, one in 1863 and one in 1871.[9][10]
In the 1870 Denmark Census, Jens was 10 years old and living with his mother, Maren (36) , step-father Peder (44) and siblings Rasmus (14), Sidse (5), Lars Peder (3) and newborn Anne Sophia. Also living with them was 74 year old Anne Katrine Pedersen.[11]
On November 17, 1879, Jens (21), along with his mother Maren (47), stepfather Peder (53), Sidse (15), Anna Sophia (11), Hanne Perine (5) and Metta (3) arrived in New York City on the ship "Thengvalla", which had left from Copenhagen.[12]
On April 15, 1882, James Larsen married Maren Christine Johansen in St. Louis, Missouri.[13]
In the 1885 Nebraska State Census, Jens was 25 and living in Lincoln Township, Kearney County Nebraska. His wife, Christine was also 25 and they had 2 children at this point, Edwin (3) and Fannie (newborn). Jens was a tailor.[14]
In the 1900 United States Census, James was 40 and Maren was also 40. The children living with them were Edemi (17), Emiel (14), Frank (12) and Mary (9). The family had left Nebraska after 1894 and were living at 108 Oak Street in Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas. He was still a tailor and listed as Naturalized.[15]
In the 1910 United States Census, James and Christine were both 50, living alone at 1912 Wood Street, still in Texarkana. He was still a tailor.[16]
In the 1920 United States Census, James and Christina, both 60, were still living on Wood Street in Texarkana. He is listed as Papers Submitted.[17]
In the 1930 United States Census, they are still living on Wood Street.[18]
In the 1940 United States Census, James is no longer working but they are still living in the same house.[19]
Jens Christian Larsen died on April 15, 1944 in Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas and was buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery.[20]
