Kirsten was born in Allinge and grew up in Sandvig. She lost her father, Gunnar, at a very young age. Her mother, Hedvig, then remarried some years later.
Kirsten attended school - Allinge-Sandvig borgerskole - from 1 Apr 1948 to 31 Mar 1956. She then started as an apprentice in the textiles shop run by Fritz Reusch in Allinge (Havnegade 1) on 1 Mar 1957 and finished the apprentice training on 28 Feb 1961.
Later she trained as a primary school teacher. Her first jobs as a teacher were on Bornholm. After her divorce she moved to Blistrup and was a teacher for many years in Blistrup (Græsted-Gilleleje Kommune). In the school she was also in charge of the library.
Kirsten was an enthusiastic singer and also worked some years as a church singer in the church in Blistrup.
In 1980 she was seriously injured in a car accident caused by a drunk driver.
After her retirement, she and Povl moved to Allinge where they both lived until they passed away. She was very active in associations and took the initiative for a scheme where volunteers called single elderly people every morning to check that they were doing well.
