Biography

Daughters of the American Revolution
William Lancaster is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A068366.

William Lancaster was born March 2, 1732, in the Bertie Precinct of North Carolina. Wayne County, North Carolina, was established during the American Revolutionary War on November 2, 1779, two months after William's death in that place. During the American Revolutionary War, William had rendered material aid in support of the Patriots. [1] Although he did not serve as a soldier, William is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for his Patriotic Service, as DAR Ancestor A068366.

DAR Records indicate that William was married twice. His first wife was Sarah Hart, and his second was Ann Outland. Application for membership in the Society of the DAR has been made by the descendants of Wiliam's son. William Sanders Lancaster, who married Sarah Turman; Levi Lancaster, who married Elizabeth Bryant; and of his daughters, Elizabeth Lancaster, who married John Smith; Sarah Lancaster, who married Smithson Cox; Louisa Lancaster, who married Micajah Cox; and Zilphia Lancaster, who married John Cox. Researcher's Notes

William and his parents are listed in "U.S. and Canada, Quaker Monthly Meeting Historical Data, 1671-2010," in the monthly meeting at Rich Square, located in Northhampton, North Carolina at "Woodland 27897, Cedar Grove, Main St., S.R. 258."

The first meeting date for Rich Square is listed as 7 June 1760. (See Hinshaw, Encyclopedia Of American Quaker Genealogy, Vol I, Pp 205-261.) Note: This is information I found on ancestry.com at the library.

Quaker records show his birthdate as 2, March 1733. (Or 2, First 1733, since apparently March is the start of the Quaker new year.)

Note from Jan Gorman: (Not just a Quaker Thing) Old Style Calendar Before 1752 the year began on Lady Day, March 25th,. Dates between January 1st and March 24th were at the end of the year. Old Style (O.S.) and New Style (N.S.) are used to indicate whether the year has been adjusted. Often both dates are used.
