Born on the 29th of January 1745, Peniston Lamb was son of Matthew Lamb Bt., of Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire, and his wife, Charlotte Coke. [1] He was educated at Eton and Lincoln's Inn. [1] he succeeded his father as the second Baronet on the 6th of November 1768. [1]
Penistone was returned to Parliament in 1768 as member for Ludgersha]] and again in 1774 and 1780. [2]
On the 13th of April 1769 he married Elizabeth Milbanke, [3] daughter of Sir Ralph Milbanke Bt., [1] of Halnaby Hall in Yorkshire, and his wife, Elizabeth Hedworth. They were parents of 4 sons and 6 daughters. [1]
Penistone was created Viscount Melbourne on the 11th of January 1781. [1] In 1784 he took one of the seats at Malmesbury, [4]
He died on the 22nd of July 1828. [1]
