CENSUS INFORMATION: In the 1841 UK Census, he is listed as Matthew Laity, aged 2 and born in county. Together with his sister, he is living with his mother, and his maternal grandparents, 2 uncles and 5 aunts, in Tuckingmill, Camborne. (HO107/141/3, Folio 50, Page 30).
In the 1851 UK Census, he is listed as Matthew Laity, a Miner aged 11 years old, and born in Camborne. He is living with his parents, a brother and 4 sisters at Beacon, All Saints parish, Camborne. (HO107/1916, Folio 287, Page 10).
In the 1861 UK Census, he is listed as Matthew Laity, a Miner aged 21 and born in Camborne. He is living with his parents, a brother and 4 sisters in Beacon, Camborne. (RG9/1584, Folio 150, Page 10).
In the 1880 US Census, he is listed as Patrick (sic) Laity, a Miner aged 46 and born in England in May. He is living in Grass Valley, Calfornia, with his wife, 4 daughters and 2 sons. (Supervisors District 2, Enumeration District 63, Page 10).
In the 1900 US Census, he is listed as Matthew Laity, a Miner aged 54 and born in England in May 1846. He is living in Precinct No. 3, Grass Valley City, Nevada county, California, with his wife, 2 sons and 4 daughters. He immigrated in 1863, has been living in the US for 37 years, and has been married for 34 years. (Supervisors District 4, Enumeration District 47, Sheet 16).

GENERAL NOTES: He is the son of Matthew and Elizabeth Glanville. There is much confusion in records between he and another Matthew Laity (#9549), who is his cousin (and who was born in 1846).

BIRTH: Birth is recorded in the GRO indexes for the June quarter of 1839 in the Redruth Registration District under the reference 9.233. He is listed as Matthew Laity. (In the 1880 US Census he called himself Patrick, but he was never baptised as such. Some of his reported dates of birth in surviving documents fit his cousin, another Matthew (#9549), who went to Australia).
