Biography

Michael was born in 1756. He passed away in 1833.

On May 10, 1808, Michael "Korts", a yeoman of Vaughan Twp., made a land petition. He had been in Upper Canada for 3 years and had a wife and 8 children. His signature was not legible and could have been Kurtz. [1]

During the War of 1812, Michael "Korts" served as a private in the 1st York Militia. As the surviving militia rolls are incomplete, he may have served at other times as well. From Sept. 25 to Oct. 3, 1813, he was absent with leave from Lieutenant James Miles Company. [2]

I have added information to this profile as a project manager with the wikitree Upper Canada War of 1812 Project and linked it to the project pages and militia record sources. I am not related to this family. Anna Elizabeth Cober could be Elizabeth Cober/Kurtz at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cober-63

Please email me, if you have questions about this war and other veterans and their families.
