Martha was born in Boston Massachusetts in 1901. Her mother died after child birth and Martha and her sister Helen, were often sent to their father's sister , Madeline Hultenius who was very instrumental in their early care during these motherless times.. Later, they were then raised by their three step mothers. This was very hard on both Helen and Martha but perhaps was instrumental in building their character for a strong family life for themselves and their children. Survival was certainly instilled in their lives. And education was also important in the Krins family. Helen was sent to Boston College at 16 years of age and Martha was trained for the nursing profession and possibly worked as a nurse in the Aberdeen area. During this time she met John Fox from Westport, S. Dak. just north of Aberdeen. They were married June 12, 1919. They lived for several years initially in Westport on John’s parents farm. Martha gave birth to five children here, Paul, Madeline,Durley and Elizabeth and Vivian
