Biography

The parents listed for this individual are speculative and may not be based on sound genealogical research. Sources to prove or disprove this ancestry are needed. 1692 July 13 born in Swartzenau, Palatinate, Germany[citation needed] There is a record of Johann Casper Kolb [Hanß is sometimes used as a nickname form Johann.] being baptized on 13 Jul 1692 in Manubach, Rheinland, Preußen (Manubach, Mainz-Bingen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany) at Reformierte Kirche Sankt Goar. It lists his parents as Hanß Peter Kolb and Anna Barbara Kolb. There is another record at the same church for the marriage of Hanß Peter Kolb and Anna Barbara Handt on 10 Jul 1689. There is also a record of them having another son Johann Philipp David Kolb born 23 MAY 1700 and baptized on 27 May 1700. [1] However, DNA disputes this paternity for Hans Caspar Kolb of South Carolina. See explanation in Dan Kolb's comments.

The ship Allen sailed from Rotterdam, captained by James Craigs, laid over in Cowes, England, departed there 7 July 1729, and arrived in the Philadelphia port on 11 September 1729. Male passengers included Hans Caspar Kolb. Female passengers included Anna Phillis Kulp. Male passengers subscribed the required immigration oaths at the courthouse on 15 September 1729. Hans Caspar Kolb signed in his own handwriting.[2] This is the passenger who many researchers state is the same man who died in South Carolina in 1770. I do not know how the researchers proved his identity, other than that the name is compatible, Kathy Gunter Sullivan, 17 October 2022.

Casper Kulp executed his will on 30 September 1769, and it was recorded at Charleston County, South Carolina.[3] In this time period, all South Carolina wills were proved and probated in Charleston.

I removed Peter Kolb as his father. I'm a DNA-verified descendant of Peter's brother Henrich, and Y-DNA analysis shows only a 0.01% chance that descendants of Hans Caspar and the descendants of known Dielman Kolb descendants are patrilineally related within 12 generations (per David Culp, administrator of the Kolb FTDNA surname project). It's hard to hold on to that 1/100th of a percent when there's really no evidence beyond geographical proximity and a shared surname to tie the families together, and especially to tie Hans Caspar to a specific father.

I'd like to be related to him, since Hans Caspar has several notable descendants that I'd like to call cousins. But unfortunately there is virtually no chance that it's true.
