Emily was born in 1925. She was the daughter of Weston Lamar Kolb and Lucille Olice Nettles. She passed away in 2016.
Upon graduation from Edmunds High School, she attained a business degree and received extensive training in property assessment and governmental accounting.
As a pioneer for women, Emily served as the Sumter County Auditor for many years. Because of the extraordinary grace and efficiency with which she conducted her professional duties for the people of her native county, she was highly regarded.
Community service was a cornerstone of Emily’s well-lived life. The Forum and the Sumter Pilot Club benefitted from her remarkable financial and time management talents.
Emily demonstrated an abiding commitment to Bethel Baptist Church by serving as President of the Esther Sunday School Class, Board of Trustees, and church hostess. She continued the rich church heritage of her Nettles ancestors who donated the property for the building complex and cemetery.
Her family treasures the exquisite afghans that she crocheted. Additionally, she possessed a natural gift for cultivating beautiful flower gardens which were greatly admired by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Gwendolyn K. Strange.
