Biography

Early Years

Norman Philip Knott was born 11 Mar 1917 in Burke, North Dakota,[1] the third son of George and Neva (Jones) Knott.[2][3]

In 1920 and 1930 he was living with his parents in Skagit County, Washinton.[4][5]

He graduated from high school in Sedro-Woolley in 1934,[6] and continued to live near Sedro-Woolley through 1936.[7]

Norman graduated from the then Washington State College, in Pullman, Washington, with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1939,[8] at which time he began to work for the Washington State Game Department. He continued to work for the Game Department until 1969, much of the time as Chief of Land Management.[1]

Marriages

Norman married Ann Ellen Mayer in Moscow, Idaho on 14 May 1939.[9] They later divorced, on 3 August 1960, in Seattle, Washington.[10]

Norman married Lenice Adele Cooper as his second wife on 25 February 1961 in Moses Lake, Washington.[11][12]

Residences

Norman remained in Pullman for a time after his graduation and marriage,[13] then moved to Yakima, Washington,[14] and eventually to Seattle, Washington.[1]

After many years in Seattle, Norman moved to Olympia, Washington,[15] where he continued to live until his retirement from the Washington State Game Department in 1969. From there, he spent several years in Saipan, Mariana Islands,[16] and a few more years in Thailand before returning to Olympia.

Death

Norman died 29 January 1978[2] in Olympia, Thurston County, Washington.[3] He is buried in the Mills and Mills Memorial Park (formerly the Olympic Memorial Gardens), in Olympia.[3][17]

Norman Knott is confirmed by autosomal DNA as the father of Gayel Knott by a full sibling match (2374.74 cm) at FTDNA between Kits 263578 and 296952.

Norman Knott is confirmed as the son of Neva Jones by the autosomal DNA match of 221.7 cM (predicted second cousins) between Gayel Knott and Eileen (Woodmark) Jellison on GedMatch; and by the autosomal DNA match of 163.5 (predicted 2nd cousin) between Gayel Knott and Nancy (Woodmark) Christian on GedMatch.
